Welcome to Awakening; below this possibly longer than needed introduction is going to be the rules and regulations for out lovely Harry Potter RP site. We want everyone to have as much fun as possible and having a list of this we expect everyone to follow allows that fun time happen. The staff understands that things happen and someone may break a rule or accidentally do something without living. If it turns into cyclical behavior, we may be forced into more action.
We have broken the rules up into different sections to make it easier to find and read. Please be aware that these can change at any time, so make sure to check back every now and then. For now however; have fun and welcome to Awakening.

General Rules:
I. Respect will and must be shown for all members and staff. We will not tolerate any form of cyber bullying, flaming, or discrimination (sex, race, gender, religion). If anyone is found not in compliance with this rule, and depending on the severity, it can result in an instant ban from Awakening. We are all lovely people behind our keyboards and deserve to be treated as such.
II. If you ever have an issue with another member, because we realize not everyone will get along, please let an admin know as soon as possible. We will keep it completely confidential as best as we can and will try to resolve the issue efficiently.
III. Disagreements with ideas can and probably will happen, we know, it sucks. But we don’t want that to bleed over into RP and affect in character relationships/plots. If you disagree with something another member has said or done and the issue started to affect your RP ability, please let an admin know and we will do our best to resolve the issue.
IV. Not everyone who joins Awakening will be a veteran role-player. If you encounter a new member, please do your best to be patient and helpful. Just remember that you were new once as well.
V. Proboards rules prohibit anyone under the age of 13 to participate on these forums. There are absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS to this rule on Awakening. If it is discovered that a member is underage and has lied on their registration, there will be an immediate ban without warning.
VI. Role-playing is meant to be a form of entertainment, not stress. Remember to HAVE FUN.

Character Rules:
I. No crossovers! This is strictly a Harry Potter RP site, no other fandoms are permitted. Sam and Dean Winchester should not appear on the site ready to fight the forces of evil.
II. No Mary Sues or Gary Stus. No one is perfect, and this extends to characters. You must have weaknesses, you must be able to lose a fight, and you may even fail a class. It is okay, we are not perfect in life so there should be no reason we are perfect here.
III. Canon characters will be accepted on Awakening. Canons should stay true to how they were written in the books, and the Staff will be monitoring them to make sure they stay as such. It is understood that people change over time, but it is not believable that George and Fred suddenly became anything but heterosexual etc.
IV. While it is entirely welcome to bring over a character from another site or a fanfiction, the history and other information of the character may have to undergo some changes so that it matches up with the events and timeline of this site.
V. Should a character be deleted, a new character will not be allowed to be made for 10 days afterwards. This is to ensure that everyone is getting love. If the character is to be remade, the same rules apply as all new characters and a new app is required (you can copy/paste from the app but new information from their life (what has happened since they were made the first/last time).
VI. Starting off we will only allow each member to have 3 characters. We want to ensure that everyone who joins is able to stay active with all of their characters. As we build a larger member base; this count may increase as we see fit.
VII. Each Character must have 5 RP posts and no less than five days must have passed before a new character may be accepted. This does not apply to completely new members posting their first character.
VIII. All characters will have a celebrity face claim that they will choose when they fill out their application. Please keep ages in mind as Michael Douglas should not be playing a twenty year old or Nina Dobrev playing a forty year old woman. PM administration if you are unsure if a face is the right age and make sure you watch the Play-Bys page to ensure you are not trying to select an already taken face.

Posting Rules:
I. Posts are to be written in third person, past tense. Unless you are posting on any OOC board.
II. Remember that when role-playing that the characters being RPed aren't the only ones that exist. For realism, for instance, your character isn't going to be the only person in the Ministry of Magic. Make sure you post as such.
III. No god-modding. God-moding can be killing or harming another character without the creators explicit permission, controlling another character's thoughts, actions, or speech. This also includes No-Selling; if you are punched (after you give someone permission) make sure you react to the punch. Getting punched in the face hurts, no matter who you are, make us see that.
IV. Please do not double-post, posting two times in a row with the same character on any thread or group thread. There is a fancy EDIT option on most threads that you will be able to go back and change details of your post.
V. Any plots that deal with killing another character, must be agreed upon with both parties AND an Admin needs to be PM’d ahead of time. If we feel that the death may be better suited for another time; we will let you know. Drama is great; we want it.
VI. All in-character RP posts need to be at least 150 words. This is the minimum word count and we will have staff members checking. This is an easy goal to achieve and will give other players more information to go off of while also improving your own writing.
VI. In roleplay, metagaming is described as using out-of-character knowledge in roleplay thoughts or actions. It is important to keep out of character knowledge out of in-character interactions, and to realize what your character would and would not know. So, if you were not there or you didn’t talk to another character who knows about it; or it wasn’t posted in the Daily Prophet; you don’t know about it!
